How to celebrate Juneteenth at our North American Houses

How to celebrate Juneteenth at our North American Houses | Soho House

From Juneteenth trivia in New York to a tribute to Black music in Nashville, here are the best ways to commemorate the holiday

Friday 16 June 2023 By Soho House

Monday marks Juneteenth – the commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Last year, we asked Soho House team members what Juneteenth means to them. This year, we’re celebrating with an array of talks, film programming and, of course, parties.

In Miami, we’re partying with award-winning author Octavia Yearwood and a night of dancing on Ocho. In Nashville, the House is throwing a Freedom Weekend pool party and a special tribute to Black music. Meanwhile in New York, we’re screening the world premiere of Candyman at DUMBO House.

Scroll down for the full list of Juneteenth programming.

Juneteenth celebration with Octavia Yearwood, Soho Beach House

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States; today, it commemorates African American joy and freedom, and emphasises education and achievement. We’ve teamed up with Octavia Yearwood to celebrate at the beach house. Expect an evening of curated DJ sets and more. We will also honour five community leaders for their work throughout South Florida and beyond.
