Get a preview of our upcoming getaway to Soho House Austin from photographer and member Cristina Fisher

Words and photographs by Cristina Fisher

Meet us in Texas for a Miami members trip to the recently opened Soho House Austin on Friday, January 28 to Sunday, January 30. If you’re interested in joining, please email austinweekender@sohohouse.com.

See more itinerary details here and read on for a sneak peek of Austin from Cristina Fisher.

For photographer and creative producer Cristina Fisher, her recent staycation at Soho House Austin wasn’t just a chance to snap a few shots under the golden-hour light – it was also a reason to celebrate her partner Rett Smith’s latest record release, ‘What The Walls Cannot See’. The Soho House Austin members spent a night in one of the House’s Big Plus rooms, which included a bathtub, an outdoor patio for afternoon Champagne, and much more that she captured on 35mm film.

In addition to treating herself to burrata, avocado toast and a few nightcap cocktails in the third floor lounge, Fisher and her partner made their way across Austin to visit member-owned businesses such as ByGeorge and Maufrais, and enjoy drinks at The White Horse and Better Half.

Read on for Fisher’s guide to Austin through the lens of a local.

A taste of France in Texas
Justine’s Brasserie is one of the best night-time ambiances Austin has to offer including a dimly lit patio, an extensive cocktail menu (start with the French 75 or Espresso Martini) and vintage vinyl on repeat. Do not miss the Salmon Cru, Escargot and Steak Frites and ask for Ethan, the general manager, to recommend the perfect wine pairing – you will not be disappointed.

Shop global fashion brands at ByGeorge
Since 1979, ByGeorge has been one of the city’s best independent luxury and lifestyle boutiques for anyone looking to scratch their designer fashion itch. It carries Vada jewellery and eyewear, which is owned by Austin founding member Katie Caplener, and a few other lines such as Ganni, Jacquemus, Jil Sander, Bottega Veneta, and Miron Crosby.

Buy a Western hat from Maufrais
Because you can’t leave Texas without a cowboy hat, be sure to stop at Maufrais – a multi-faceted Stetson retailer featuring select home goods, Western Wear, and coffee bar by Little Brother. Don’t forget to check out the back bar, which you can reserve for private parties of five or more. And remember to visit its sister store, Allens Boots (next door) for a wide selection of cowboy boots.

Take a load off at Better Half
All-day coffee and cocktails spot, Better Half, boasts the perfect patio for meeting friends, reading a book, and dog watching. My favourite menu items include the burger, the Better Half Breakfast Sandwich, the Fall Big Salad and the Palo Doro cocktail, featuring the best local sotol, Desert Door (note: visit their Distillery in Driftwood, TX, if you have an extra afternoon). If beer is your thing, pop over to Hold Out Brewing, just one backyard over.
